Atalanta Win The Uefa Europa League Ending Bayer Leverkusens Long Unbeaten Run

Atalanta win the UEFA Europa League, ending Bayer Leverkusen's long unbeaten run

Lookman nets hat-trick in a comprehensive victory

Atalanta claim first European trophy since 1963

Atalanta have been crowned UEFA Europa League champions after defeating Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 in a thrilling final in Dublin. Ademola Lookman was the hero for the Italian side, scoring a magnificent hat-trick to end Leverkusen's 51-game unbeaten run.

Lookman opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box. He doubled Atalanta's lead just before half-time, converting a penalty after he had been brought down in the area. Leverkusen pulled one back in the second half through Robert Andrich, but Lookman completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish in the 60th minute.

Leverkusen never gave up and pulled another goal back through Moussa Diaby in the 89th minute. However, it was too little, too late for the German side. Atalanta held on to secure their first European trophy since 1963.

The victory is a remarkable achievement for Atalanta, who have only been playing in Europe for the past five seasons. They have overcome some of the continent's biggest clubs to reach the final and have now etched their name into the history books.

Lookman was the star of the show for Atalanta, but he was quick to praise his team-mates for their contribution to the victory.

"It's an incredible feeling to win the Europa League," said Lookman. "I'm so proud of my team-mates. We've worked so hard all season and we deserve this success."

Bayer Leverkusen will be disappointed to have come so close to winning their first European trophy, but they can be proud of their achievements this season. They have played some excellent football and have shown that they can compete with the best teams in Europe.
